The first thing which is worth mentioning in this album is its artistic cover. I am totally in favor of bands actually taking artwork into serious consideration and GSF is a band worthy of praise for their meticulous choice of album covers which are of esthetic value. This piece is a dark and sort of fantastical image of a land of doom. The shadowy and blurry atmosphere in which some human silhouettes and an obelisk are barely visible on top of some coastal rocks has created a nightmarish sight. It is indeed a glimpse into a cold dead land. Thumbs up to the artist Travis Smith, who has previously worked with giants like Death, Katatonia, Amorphis, Iced Earth, Anathema and Opeth, for creating yet another superb work of art. […]

Gotta love a band shrouded in mystery. We don’t know who exactly Deathwhite are but the music more than speaks for itself and they have been on my radar for a while due to the combination of their alluring gloomy artwork and the promise of gothic styled doom. I love all doom but certainly not equally, the melancholic guitar driven sadboi times doom is something close to my heart. I’m glad to hear so far that promise is being delivered on in a big way with this new single “Plague Of Virtue” off of their upcoming album Grave Image releasing via Seasons Of Mist January 31st, 2020. Any music album is doubtless a package in this day and age. It is more than just the music and consists, moreover, of artwork too. Unlike lyrics, which have been companion to music since the dawn of this inimitable human phenomenon, album art provides a rather new form of accompaniment to music and perhaps it is this aspect that gives meaning to a music “album”. We may have never been so dependent on visual cues as we are today; the impact of visuals on the audience is quite inevitable and many artists and producers have used this to their advantage. The listeners, on the other hand, have been aware of this matter as well and have taken it into account and, as a result, kept the cycle going. […]
I always enjoy a good split. There’s so much you can do with them, whether it’s two completely different bands, a consistent theme or some esoteric experiment. My expectations take a back seat with these kinds of releases and the ride I’ve received on this Body Void/Keeper split is something else. The surprise is the best you can hope for with a split. If you loved the earlier work of either of these bands then the vinyl and tape releases are a no brainer, you don’t even need a preview. It’s raw and sincere sonic mayhem. […]

Golden Core are a duo from Oslo, Norway. Their latest album, Fimbultýr, dazzled me earlier in 2019 with their genre defying blend of progressive and stoner metal styles. If you are not familiar then it is a fine entry point into the bands discography and will no doubt provide every kind of metalhead with something interesting and something new. Postvorta are a highly creative post metal band from Italy. I’ve been getting a lot of good promos from this region lately, typically in the wheelhouse of post and doom.
