Album Review: Primitive Man – “Immersion” 8/10 (Sludge Metal)

The main objective of Denver 3-piece sludge metal band Primitive Man seems to be to obliterate the eardrums of anyone who listens. I’ve been aware of these guys for long time and I’ve liked a good number of their tracks, but this was my first full length sit down with them, and it was a truly suffocating experience. Album Review: Beggar – Compelled To Repeat 7.2 (Sludge Metal)

This record is interesting to say the least. Beggar have made a record that dips its toes into a lot of different genres while never really submerging in one. Despite being a mixed bag, the record does work quite a bit better than I thought it might. My first few listens through, I found it a little jarring to be jumping all over the place sound-wise but I do appreciate more and more what was trying to be done. The band have created a sound that is sludgy and doom-laden while keeping a nice edge to give the record its unique atmosphere. Album Review: Body Void/Keeper Split 9 (Death Sludge)

I always enjoy a good split. There’s so much you can do with them, whether it’s two completely different bands, a consistent theme or some esoteric experiment. My expectations take a back seat with these kinds of releases and the ride I’ve received on this Body Void/Keeper split is something else. The surprise is the best you can hope for with a split. If you loved the earlier work of either of these bands then the vinyl and tape releases are a no brainer, you don’t even need a preview. It’s raw and sincere sonic mayhem. […]
