Written by Kirk At the end of every year, we get flooded with lists of favorite albums. But what about those beloved songs that didn’t make it onto a full-length record? What about the tracks […]
Norway’s avantgarde metal heroes ENSLAVED are set to release their new album “Utgard” in autumn 2020, first details have been revealed over the past weeks. Now, they release their new single “Homebound”. Check out the song and video here: […]
I have to admit that I wasn’t a big fan of pure instrumental albums for a long time, but last year I stumbled over some great representatives of this genre and something clicked. MYTH OF I’s self-titled debut album is the newest and very impressive addition in this wide field for me. The four band members (two guitar players, bassist and drummer) come up with outstanding musical skills, and they deliver progressive (tech-death) metal at its finest. […]
The Symphony X fans here should be familiar with bass wizard Mike Lepond. But besides his fantastic work for the prog masters and countless guest appearances for other bands, he also has a solo project: MIKE LEPOND’S SILENT ASSASSINS, which released two albums so far (the same-named debut in 2014, Pawn and Prophecy in 2018). […]
Lucifungus made a pretty strong impression in 2018 with their debut EP and a bunch of awesome show lineups in 2019. I’m glad to finally get some more from these guys. A very riff focused doom duo with a lot of gain, the way it ought to be. I wonder if they have the orange amps. Definitely got the Melvins vibe. […]
Let’s end the week with something more serene to help us wind down from the various shows and album release hype mongering. This is a single from Norwegian singer songwriter Kari Rueslåtten who many will know from her early work with the experimental doom band 3rd and the Mortal, a project that played a crucial role in the early days of the metal scene – inspiring many future bands to be inclusive of female singers. The single “Sørgekåpe” is the title track of the forthcoming album Sørgekåpe out May 8, 2020. This will be Kari Rueslåtten’s eighth solo album to date and the experience is shown through it’s elegance. […]
I’m a huge fan of post hardcore and mathcore, sometimes it even threatens to overcome even my love of metal. This is the second major release from The Motion Mosaic following up their 2016 album Samsara which is well worth a listen but is a very different release, a different part of the bands development. The ideas and experimentation are there but are looser. Now with Avant-Garbage they’ve tightened it up and turned it on it’s head. There’s nothing loose about it, this is a hard hitting yet elegant core album with all the makings of an end of year list candidate. […]
Four great albums, four short reviews. This time we’re dealing with a stranger bunch and that’s pretty damn exciting. This is the result of a deep dive into Bandcamp new arrivals, all of this albums are hardcore or hardcore adjacent with a few twists and turns of their own. And three of them are Name Your Own Price! […]
