Album review: Vulkan – Technatura 8 (Heavy Progrock)

Sometimes it’s just the fraction of a second in which our subconsciousness makes us recognize something in the current mass of informations and decides whether it could be interesting. A band called VULKAN woke up my curiousness immediately when I scrolled by, and the beautiful cover artwork did the rest, so I headed over to Bandcamp to give them a listen. […]

Album Review: Dominia – “The Withering of the Rose” 9/10 (Doom/Gothic)

Although more than two decades have passed since Dominia formed in 1999, they have a very sparse but steady discography of only five albums. This shows how meticulous this band is when it comes to artistic production. This, in turn, may have resulted in their current status of obscurity and the fact that they are not well known among listeners to this genre despite all their merits and talents. […]

Album Review: Protosequence – A Blunt Description of Something Obscene 9.5 (Tech Death)

Protosequence are from Edmonton, Alberta which isn’t that far from me and it’s a city that I sometimes travel to for shows and such. I’ve seen these guys live a few time and they’re insane. The west coast of Canadian has a slurry of great tech death bands like The Hallowed Catharsis, Widows Peak, and Archspire. But even with a local scene packed full of great metal bands, Protosequence have always stood out to me. I mean, hell, even my mom thinks this band rips. I think that says a lot about how good they are, in a funny way. When shows start happening again, I’ll be very excited to catch the band playing these tracks in some sketchy dive bar. […]

Album Review: Defeated Sanity – “The Sanguinary Impetus” 8.2/10 (Brutal Death)

So, full transparency, this is the most excited I’ve ever been for an early release. I’m a huge Defeated Sanity fan, and the day I found out they were releasing a new album AND I had early access, I freaked the fuck out. In case you aren’t familiar Defeated Sanity is a technical brutal death metal band, and their new album The Sanguinary Impetus comes out on July 24th. This is their first album since 2016, and their 4th album on Willowtip Records (who’ve had an amazing year in 2020, I might add) […]

Discography Overview: Hadi Pakzad 4th Anniversary

In the bumpy and rocky history of rock and alternative music in Iran, few names are as revered and highly esteemed as Hadi Pakzad, especially among the younger generation of musicians who appeared after the 1979’s revolution. Rock music in this land goes way back to 1960s and 1970s, but there was an extended hiatus for about 25-30 years. Born in 1982 and in the city of Mashhad, Hadi held a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering but was chiefly engrossed in philosophy, literature and music. He started his work as a young alternative musician in 2002, but had to work in the underground scene, until 2016 when a compilation of his previous works was “officially” published with a permit from Iran’s Ministry of Islamic Guidance. Later that year, on May 27th, he took his life after an overdose on tranquilizers and sleeping pills. […]
