Interview: Witnesses (Doom Metal, New York)

Witnesses is a doom metal solo project that recently dropped their new record Doom II, which you might remember me reviewing a little while back. The record really struck me, so I’m very pleased to have the opportunity to ask the man behind the music some questions! Make sure to check out Doom II if you’ve yet to! […]

Album Review: The Acacia Strain – “Slow Decay” 8.6/10 (Deathcore)

The Acacia Strain are a deathcore band that have staked their career on making some of the most bleak, negative, and skull smashing music of all time. They also happen to have been one of the bands that got me into heavy music. They’re one of my favorite bands, and their 2014 effort Coma Witch is easily one of my favorite albums of all time. These guys have been around since 2001, and to see them still going so strong to this day does warm my heart. Needless to say, this was one of my most anticipated albums of the year. […]

Album Review: Vredensdal – The Tyrant Shade 7.7 (Black Metal)

Writing for Noob Heavy has brought me tons of exciting opportunities, from interviewing one of my favorite bands too receiving early releases for highly anticipated albums, but the first promo I ever got was from Vredensdal, a one-man raw black metal project from here in America. Vredensdal will always stand out in my mind for that reason, and I felt it was only appropriate to cover their new record titled The Tyrant Shade. […]

Album Review: Defeated Sanity – “The Sanguinary Impetus” 8.2/10 (Brutal Death)

So, full transparency, this is the most excited I’ve ever been for an early release. I’m a huge Defeated Sanity fan, and the day I found out they were releasing a new album AND I had early access, I freaked the fuck out. In case you aren’t familiar Defeated Sanity is a technical brutal death metal band, and their new album The Sanguinary Impetus comes out on July 24th. This is their first album since 2016, and their 4th album on Willowtip Records (who’ve had an amazing year in 2020, I might add) […]

Album Review: Killitorous – The Afterparty 7.8 (Tech Death)

Going into this album, I was incredibly perplexed. The album cover looks goofy, the song titles are wild, and I think the band name is a play on the word “clitoris.” That said, the pedigree this band has is absolutely insane, it’s a supergroup with members of Annihilator, First Fragment, and Suffocation. Then we have the guest features, if I tried to list them all we’d be here forever, but we have members of Cryptopsy, Leprous, Allegaeon, Voivod, and Obscura. What could this possibly sound like? […]

Album Review: Naglfar – Cerecloth 8 (Black Metal)

When asking someone what band got them into black metal, you’ll hear names like Mayhem and Darkthrone thrown around a lot, maybe Bathory if you’re talking to someone older, or Behemoth if they’re younger (maybe even Burzum if they’re a Nazi or something.) My answer to that question, however, is a bit unique, cause I get to say Naglfar, a long running black metal band from Sweden that are back with their first new record in 8 years! […]
