Album Review: Hatebreed – “Weight Of The False Self” 7.8/10 (Hardcore)

I’m back, and my black metal streak is over. What ended it? Well… Hatebreed! Hatebreed are a bit of a contentious band, cause they have what I’ve dubbed the “Lamb Of God problem.” They have a considerable and devoted fanbase, but generally aren’t exactly critical darlings due to sorta kinda releasing the same album over and over again. Like Lamb Of God, however, I happen to like this pony’s one trick. […]

Album Review: Sleepscultper – Sleepscultper 9 (Math/Hardcore)

I took a second listen today just to make sure what I heard is what I heard, and fair enough the very opening seconds shot right down the back of my neck and down the spine. This appears to be a vinyl re-release combining their EP and debut LP, put out by Silent Pendulum Records on Bandcamp as Name Your Own Price. I seriously recommend the labels discography for the 10 bucks just to have them in collection and support the label. It’s run by the current drummer of The Number Twelve Looks Like You, Michael Kadnar, and they put out vinyl reissues of The Number Twelve and many amazing new releases from upcoming bands. You can hear all about it in my interview with him and DJ Scully here. […]

“Quench” – new video from Kevlar Bikini (HxC/Punk) out now!

Behold my ability to repost a press release from Greenger Records. Kevlar Bikini, I like that name and imagery. It evokes something militant but at the same time carries that punk aesthetic of having “bikini” in the name. I’ll always be a fan of hardcore and it’s many offshoots, this new single hits just right in my opinion. Yes I’ve been drinking for three days straight. Just watch the video and support the band damn it. […]

Album Review: 156/Silence – Irrational Pull 8 (Metallic Hardcore)

They really buried the lead with this one, it starts off much more typical than I would like for metallic hardcore, being closer to what I wanted the new Code Orange to be without adding all that much. About halfway at the track “Lost Visual” however, is an insane sonic moment that gripped me and filled me with shivers, allowing me to appreciate more on repeat listens. With that said, there are a few things for the album as a whole that could have improved it significantly. […]

Album Review: The Motion Mosaic – Avant-Garbage 9.2 (Mathcore)

I’m a huge fan of post hardcore and mathcore, sometimes it even threatens to overcome even my love of metal. This is the second major release from The Motion Mosaic following up their 2016 album Samsara which is well worth a listen but is a very different release, a different part of the bands development. The ideas and experimentation are there but are looser. Now with Avant-Garbage they’ve tightened it up and turned it on it’s head. There’s nothing loose about it, this is a hard hitting yet elegant core album with all the makings of an end of year list candidate. […]
