Album Review: Unfathomable Ruination – “Decennium Ruinae” 9/10 (Brutal Death)

Few bands in the technical brutal death metal scene are as reliable as London-based five-piece Unfathomable Ruination. Formed in 2010, they’ve cranked out three utterly fantastic full-length albums, including 2019’s Enraged & Unbound, plus an equally solid EP. This 11-year run of quality is particularly impressive when you consider that only drummer Doug Anderson and guitarist Daniel Herrera remain from the original lineup; the band has had several personnel adjustments, including three different vocalists. They’ve never lost their signature sound, though, which is astoundingly heavy, intensely fast, and mindblowingly technical. That applies 100% to new EP Decennium Ruinae, due out on May 28, which is every bit as excellent as we would expect. […]

Album Review: Defeated Sanity – “The Sanguinary Impetus” 8.2/10 (Brutal Death)

So, full transparency, this is the most excited I’ve ever been for an early release. I’m a huge Defeated Sanity fan, and the day I found out they were releasing a new album AND I had early access, I freaked the fuck out. In case you aren’t familiar Defeated Sanity is a technical brutal death metal band, and their new album The Sanguinary Impetus comes out on July 24th. This is their first album since 2016, and their 4th album on Willowtip Records (who’ve had an amazing year in 2020, I might add) […]

Album Review: Behold… The Arctopus – Hapeleptic Overtrove 7.8 (Experimental)

I love the way this album opens, it’s such a tantalising progression to begin with. The percussion is unlike anything else I’ve heard with all sorts of rattles and satisfying timing. It’s a very stripped back but hyper focused album that displays a lot of instrumental versatility and storytelling in league with Bongripper. It’s not just an instrumental album, it manages to push boundaries and explore some shit. It’s a bit front loaded but it was a great space to start off in nonetheless. […]

Album Review: Unfathomable Ruination – Enraged And Unbound 9.5 (Brutal Death)

Well this is a hit, there’s death metal for the whole family on Enraged and Unbound, the dad and uncle that still listen to The Big 4 and Morbid Angel, the the older son who likes it a bit more technical, and the youngest of the children becka with the Disentomb tee who likes it fucking dank and filthy. It has guest vocals by death metal growlers Julien Truchan from Benighted and Sven de Caluwé from Aborted. The album art is a work made by the incredible Eliran Kantor. This album is like the heisenberg recipe of pure death metal and it comes out November 22nd on Willowtip Records. […]
