The twenty-year-old Gothic band from Slovakia, Gloom, has recently published their third studio album titled Awaken. I certainly hope that with this album, they begin to awaken their artistic instincts and produce more music in the future. It is true that gothic music has long passed its 80s and 90s prime, and been largely replaced by similar genres of symphonic rock or symphonic metal, bands like Gloom still capture the essence of this dramatically melancholic and lovelorn style and keep the candle lit in this darkness. […]
Harbinger of Storms is the work of one-man bedroom producer Shane Edward Semler. “Talos” is the companion to his last EP release, “Jupiter”. Everything about this EP has a mythical quality to it. Always having a strong interest in mythology myself, I was sucked in by the cover art. A huge winged automaton towers over a scene of fleeing livestock and peasants. Guarding them? Or poised to wreak havoc? Defined as Epic Doom Metal, I’m hoping for havoc and impending doom. […]
Although more than two decades have passed since Dominia formed in 1999, they have a very sparse but steady discography of only five albums. This shows how meticulous this band is when it comes to artistic production. This, in turn, may have resulted in their current status of obscurity and the fact that they are not well known among listeners to this genre despite all their merits and talents. […]
Do you like overt lyrics about secret society chanted over meldo death? Do you like the rhythm elements of Rivers Of Nihil minus the progressive flair? Then say no more, I’ve got you covered with the new God Dethroned. It constantly switches between being really heavy and being a bit limp. At its peak it works these two sides together to make a dramatic record. Not necessarily a very good one. […]
It’s so early in the year and one of my most anticipated albums is already here. Some backstory for you, I first came across Deathwhite in 2018 when they released their first full length ‘For a Black Tomorrow’. The album blew me away and I’ve been consistently listening to it ever since. I’ve been waiting not so patiently since for news of a second album and so here we are with their second full length. I think I latched onto this band so quickly because of how much they remind me of Katatonia which is easily my favourite band of all time and they haven’t put out a new album in 4-ish years. When I first heard ‘For a Black Tomorrow’ I was instantly drawn in by this band’s likeness to Katatonia but I have stuck around because of the band’s talent and merit. […]
Cold In Berlin have been playing equally atmospheric and abrasive live performances in London for almost a decade now. Starting with the essence of a post punk band and gradually absorbing the darkness of the world developing around them, dragging along with them a sense of doom. Their latest album, Rituals Of Surrender is a gothed up stoner doom album that releases on the 11th of October. I had a chance to hear the album early and very much enjoyed it, I also went back through their previous releases to find they basically started as an awesome band and stayed that way. So I’m very happy to present my interview with Cold In Berlin, an entertaining read whether you know the band or not (Just press play) […]
