Album Review: Muscle Vest – “Live Laugh Loathe” 8/10 (Noise Rock)

Have you got 12 minutes? That’s all Muscle Vest ask for with Live Laugh Loathe. Less actually. The brilliantly titled second EP from the London-based noise rockers definitely doesn’t mess about. It follows their 2020 debut Human Resources, and picks up with much of the same raucous and angular noise rock heard on that record. Unsurprisingly then, if you like bands like The Jesus Lizard, Pissed Jeans and USA Nails, this is the one for you. […]

I have been a metalhead all my life, listening mostly to Death Metal, Thrash, and some black metal. The best times I had and where I have seen some of the best shows were at Wacken Open Air. The last decade of my life my taste has shifted to noiserock, hardcore punk and heavy psych but I still listen to Metal and will so for the rest of my life. Still listen regularly to Entombed, Mayhem and Obituary. Last year I absolutely loved Pyrrhon and Gulch. So I am really glad to do a small post here on NoobHeavy because the genres noiserock and metal are of course all very close (saw a post a while ago about Couch Slut which I am big fan of). I wanted to list a couple of albums here that are really really heavy and play mostly with heavy feedback, noise and like to experiment with their sound. […]

Album Review: Behold… The Arctopus – Hapeleptic Overtrove 7.8 (Experimental)

I love the way this album opens, it’s such a tantalising progression to begin with. The percussion is unlike anything else I’ve heard with all sorts of rattles and satisfying timing. It’s a very stripped back but hyper focused album that displays a lot of instrumental versatility and storytelling in league with Bongripper. It’s not just an instrumental album, it manages to push boundaries and explore some shit. It’s a bit front loaded but it was a great space to start off in nonetheless. […]

Album Review: Izthmi – The Arrow Of Our Ways 8.7 (Black Metal)

A wonderful black metal album that has both more harsh noise and more melody than I was expecting, this is not a middling release – it has a pointed sentiment and strong structure. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it a million times, guitar solos and sweet licks make black metal worth listening to. Even the tremolo picking here isn’t stale. The Arrows Of Our Ways is a very unique album and I’m not exactly sure what makes it so – perhaps the combination of mixing, vocals, concept and low af bass all make for the right cocktail. Izthmi have crafted an immersive and rewarding experience that releases via Within The Mind Records Feb 14th, 2020. […]
