DEATHWHITE premiere new song “Plague of Virtue” and Info On New Album

Gotta love a band shrouded in mystery. We don’t know who exactly Deathwhite are but the music more than speaks for itself and they have been on my radar for a while due to the combination of their alluring gloomy artwork and the promise of gothic styled doom. I love all doom but certainly not equally, the melancholic guitar driven sadboi times doom is something close to my heart. I’m glad to hear so far that promise is being delivered on in a big way with this new single “Plague Of Virtue” off of their upcoming album Grave Image releasing via Seasons Of Mist January 31st, 2020. Album Review: Izthmi – The Arrow Of Our Ways 8.7 (Black Metal)

A wonderful black metal album that has both more harsh noise and more melody than I was expecting, this is not a middling release – it has a pointed sentiment and strong structure. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it a million times, guitar solos and sweet licks make black metal worth listening to. Even the tremolo picking here isn’t stale. The Arrows Of Our Ways is a very unique album and I’m not exactly sure what makes it so – perhaps the combination of mixing, vocals, concept and low af bass all make for the right cocktail. Izthmi have crafted an immersive and rewarding experience that releases via Within The Mind Records Feb 14th, 2020. […]

WOLF reveal cover of their upcoming album “Feeding the Machine”

For my fans of straight up Heavy Metal, I’m sure many of you will be excited to hear about Swedish metallers WOLF bringing out their first album in 6 years, following up their 2016 release Devil Seed with a brand new album called Feeding The Machine. I’m personally not familiar with the band and can’t attest to the quality of the music but I sure as shit can attest to the quality of this glorious album cover by Thomas Holm. A Swedish veteran artist who has done work for the likes of King Diamond and Mercyful Fate. Just look at this. […]

Interview: Extinction (Eco-Slam)

Extinction is a new project best described as “eco-slam”, a genre of extreme death metal that combines their music with activism for various pro earth and humanitarian causes. The general concept is to highlight the ecological disasters caused by modern society. I had the chance to speak with the person behind Extinction about their causes and the new demo Anthropogenic Degradation of Ecosystemic Vegetation. One of the practices I find particularly interesting is the use of recycled cassettes and clothing as an eco friendly alternative to major production. The result is something a lot more personal and varied. Extinction is currently a solo project that is keen on assembling a band to take things to the next level so make sure to get in touch if you want to get involved. […]

Mass’ Top 30 Album Covers of 2019

Any music album is doubtless a package in this day and age. It is more than just the music and consists, moreover, of artwork too. Unlike lyrics, which have been companion to music since the dawn of this inimitable human phenomenon, album art provides a rather new form of accompaniment to music and perhaps it is this aspect that gives meaning to a music “album”. We may have never been so dependent on visual cues as we are today; the impact of visuals on the audience is quite inevitable and many artists and producers have used this to their advantage. The listeners, on the other hand, have been aware of this matter as well and have taken it into account and, as a result, kept the cycle going. […]

Hyborian release new track “Planet Destroyer” and details of Vol II via Season Of Mist

We’ve all heard stoner rock, stoner doom and southern metal, but Progressive Sludge Metal is a tag that gets me excited every time. As you can tell by the sounds on display in this new single, they’ve done well to replace the monotony of sludge with the exciting energy of progressive metal. It’s good blending that creates a nice middle breeding ground for all sorts of goodies. Definitely looking forward to the new album in full. Check out the full art and details below as well. […]

Album Review: Skullcrush – Archaic Towers Of Annihilation 7 (Death Metal)

There are few things in my maladroit passage through life as recognizable, or dare I say addictive, as that sweet swedeath guitar tone. Muffled and thick, the pure encapsulation and distillation of sonic headbangable heft. 2019 certainly offered an abundance of riffs that fit said bill–however, it’s a sound that, when executed with a modicum of technical prowess, seldom gets old. When Skullcrush came out of the December gate a tad unnoticed with Archaic Towers Of Annihilation, a worthy album unfortunately birthed in the months o’ lists, they certainly delivered in the prowess department. In short? Throw on your gym outfit of choice and lace up them sneakers (or joggers, as may apply.) It’s time to get sweaty. […]

Album Review: Body Void/Keeper Split 9 (Death Sludge)

I always enjoy a good split. There’s so much you can do with them, whether it’s two completely different bands, a consistent theme or some esoteric experiment. My expectations take a back seat with these kinds of releases and the ride I’ve received on this Body Void/Keeper split is something else. The surprise is the best you can hope for with a split. If you loved the earlier work of either of these bands then the vinyl and tape releases are a no brainer, you don’t even need a preview. It’s raw and sincere sonic mayhem. […]

Scott Morrison Forces Handshake and Murdoch Media Edits Video To Make Victims Look Bad

Fires are rampaging through Australia in a way the world has never seen before with the biggest flames and largest burning area to burn at once. Firefighters both on the payroll and volunteer are risking their lives to battle the inferno with many losing their lives. Meanwhile Scott Morrison, our supposed leader, was on his third holiday for the year, in Hawaii. To try and win back some good faith he gave money to some of the firefighters but not even close to enough. This insincere gesture made him hated even by those who voted for him. […]

Album Review: Cruentus – “Fake” 8.7/10 (Death/Thrash)

This is just the month of Italy for Noob Heavy, this is like the 4th Italian metal band I’ve covered in the last month and the quality has been superb each time across many genres. This time around I’m covering one of Italy’s veteran bands, Cruentus, who have been making music with various lineups since 1989, which is a year longer than I’ve been alive. Their new album Fake, is their first LP since In Myself in 1996 so a lot of people are excited for this long awaited return. Well, I’m happy to say this is the first thrash album I’ve enjoyed in a long time. […]
