BAGV is a recent black metal favorite of mine and I have pretty much left it in the player since it arrived. A solo project from my city that has been established for some time, releasing their first LP in 2008. The album itself is a compelling mix of post metal chills and abrasive black metal. It sounds really good on tape and the overall quality of the physical product was fine […]
At this point I’m covering so many one man bands and it’s crazy the level of quality an individual can put out now. This guy has a bit of a history having released a slew of recordings over the past few years, a lot of which are well received. He’s clearly onto something. I’ll definitely be going back to check out the LP which holds a whopping 89% at the Metallum. This has 91% with less reviewers. Just for context, most of the time fully fledged and veteran bands get worse scores than this every day. There’s plenty of blackened speed metal here with zero compromise to the sound or intensity. Definitely check this one out. […]
I did not know that I wanted to hear lofi dungeon synth black metal until this started playing. I can’t believe how listenable this. It’s clearly something finely crafted, using imperfection to accentuate the music. This is some more of the nerdy black metal shit I love. This is my first time hearing them so I have no idea what the rest of their discography is like but I’ll have to take a look back. This is a nice succinct concept album with an audio premise. […]
Just a quick review as I don’t have a whole lot to say today and I’m about to go to the ocean. So naturally I spent the sunny morning checking one of the latest black metal releases I’ve missed, Det Svarte Juv. Mork is a one man black metal band featuring Thomas Erikson. Really impressive work for one person, it sounds better than most shit I hear from your average 5 piece. For real. […]
A lone wind instrument patrols the beach at night using its deeply toned sounds to unearth tasty licks from within the sand. That’s basically how I would describe this black metal album that uses a lot of trombone. The story narrated by a grim dark vocalist who dishes out plenty of standard but enjoyable black metal growls. It’s dark, it’s hard but it also has a heap of atmosphere. In 2018 a lot of bands are coming out wielding exotic instruments to thicken their soundscapes – and its working. […]
