Album Review: Abu Ghraib – Enhanced Torture Techniques 8.7 (Grindcore)

It’s stupid how fast this grindcore is, its speedgrind. Overall I’m super impressed with Abu Ghraib as an Australian band, I originally found out about them by scouring the Metal Archives for hours searching by Australia for the Heavypedia project. I encountered Abu Ghraib and their band photo was so funny and endearing I ended up saving it “for later” which I guess is now because they’ve released a massive grind album that surpasses even their sublime memery in ability and entertainment. The hype is insane on this one, so I’m excited for everyone else as I listen to Blood Incantation’s new album Hidden History of the Human Race for a pre-release review. The moment I pressed play the silence was broken so abruptly that it legitimately frightened me, so early signs are promising. Micro Dose: Blackwater Burial – The Prison Of Belief (Tech Death)

Blackwater Burial have released a solid tech death record with crazy good musicianship. The guitar and bass work here is incredibly technical, but it never feels unnecessary or wanky, everything fits incredibly well. It’s mixed nicely so all the individual layers stand out nicely. The vocals are these low growls with a nice bit of clarity to them. They are brutal and very well performed, but i can make out a lot of the lyrics which is always appreciated. […]

I became familiar with Satta through IG as I follow a lot of dark artists suitable for band merch, Satta however has a classical approach to the style that outshines the rabble of common assets and lazy work ethic. His art is not just dark by subject, it embodies it fully, from conception to technique to completion. It’s a higher brow darkness. I also became familiar with the aussie OSDM band Aeon’s Abyss through instagram, who ended up commissioning Satta for their upcoming album Impenitent (Nov 1), a fortunate pairing sharing similar classic metal values. Album Review: Horrific Demise – Excruciating Extermination 8.8 (Brutal Death)

I can’t imagine this album not being up to the standards of the modern metalhead. It’s a good length with a distinct sound drawing from both old school and modern influences. It doesn’t use trendy techniques or gimmicks, it just nails down some solid as fuck death metal. It has good presentation and perfect production. Horrific Demise could very quickly become a heavy hitter within the metal scene, especially with such early label support from Comatose Music. […]
