Album Review: Void Rot – Descending Pillars 8 (Death Doom)

A pinch on the arse this record is, a solid helping of death doom with an emphasis on the death. I’ve been waiting for this one, waiting. Unfortunately for the rest of you rubes, September is when you’ll be hearing this beast in its entirety. I’d go ahead and call this a safe bet for pre-order, not only does it sound good but you can gauge your expectations by checking out their previous output, a Void Rot/Atavisma split out earlier in 2020 via Everlasting Spew. That split set a tone that I wanted more of, and here it is! […]

New BODY COUNT video for “Point The Finger” feat. Riley Gale

A few weeks ago, BODY COUNT released their highly acclaimed new album Carnivore (review HERE). Normally they would be on tour over the next months, but as we all know this is not possible at the moment. So the band made a powerful video for “Point The Finger”, entirely shot with cell phones in home quarantine. It also features guest vocalist Riley Gale from popular Texan crossover thrash outfit Power Trip, and was produced & edited by Jay Rodriguez for Itchy House Films. […]

Album Review: Naglfar – Cerecloth 8 (Black Metal)

When asking someone what band got them into black metal, you’ll hear names like Mayhem and Darkthrone thrown around a lot, maybe Bathory if you’re talking to someone older, or Behemoth if they’re younger (maybe even Burzum if they’re a Nazi or something.) My answer to that question, however, is a bit unique, cause I get to say Naglfar, a long running black metal band from Sweden that are back with their first new record in 8 years! […]

Album Review: Black Pestilence – Hail The Flesh 8 (Black/Thrash)

A tasty morsel of ye ol’ black metal and something newer, something wilder. I don’t even mean modern, there’s just a lot of elements that deviate from the standard melodic and long winded frameworks that are popular right now with genres like post black making a huge push forward. This has punk and heavy metal vibes in it, it’s interesting because it’s easily beer drinking kind of metal but it’s also more sophisticated musically than that descriptor does justice. It’s a damn good time. Revel in the flesh! […]

Album Review: Death Courier – Necrotic Verses 8 (Death/Doom)

A surprising re-entry album from a legacy Greek band, this is their first major release since 2013 and their first one on Transcending Obscurity. Since the 80s Death Courier have undergone several lineup changes and lengthy breaks but the creative force of Billy Soulas drives on unimpeded with this fantastic death record. You can always tell when an album is made by people who have been playing a specific genre for a long time, it has those old school vibes without trying too hard, a bit of that Cannibal Corpse Bloodthirst hammering. Less trendy and more authentic in sound. […]

Album Review: Nox Formulae – “Drakon – Darshan – Satan” 8.3 (Black Metal)

Black metal as a genre has progressed quite a bit since its inception. We’ve seen countless bands fuse the basis of the 2nd wave sound with so many different flavors to varying degrees of success and yet many prefer to stick to the core fundamentals. Nox Formulae is a Greek band that very much stays close to its roots, both lyrically and sonically, and with their latest outing Drakon Darshan Satan. […]
