Thanks to my huge affection for the land of fire and ice, I’m always getting curious when I read about the appearance of a new band from this amazing country. And, although I’m honestly not a big black metal fan, this one caught my attention.
14 Italian rock and metal musicians, feat. members of Rhapsody of Fire, DGM, Extrema and more, got together virtually and recorded the song “United we stand” as a message of hope to the rest of the world. The contributions have been sent from each musician’s personal house, as the country is already locked down for weeks now.
Do you miss going to live shows currently? I definitely do. The world has turned upside down in just a few weeks, the effects can be felt in all parts of our lives. But these crazy times can bring new, maybe (in first sight) unusual opportunities as well.
In February, Death Metal outfit Misery Index toured with Napalm Death, Eyehategod and Rotten Sound. And they caught this energy, as they shot a video of their complete show in Nantes. It is now available to watch via their YouTube channel. Check it out here, and crank it up!!!
Let’s end the week with something more serene to help us wind down from the various shows and album release hype mongering. This is a single from Norwegian singer songwriter Kari Rueslåtten who many will know from her early work with the experimental doom band 3rd and the Mortal, a project that played a crucial role in the early days of the metal scene – inspiring many future bands to be inclusive of female singers. The single “Sørgekåpe” is the title track of the forthcoming album Sørgekåpe out May 8, 2020. This will be Kari Rueslåtten’s eighth solo album to date and the experience is shown through it’s elegance.
Crypt Crawler are one of my favorite Australian death metal bands, their 2019 LP, To The Grave made it on my Top 25 Aussie Metal Albums list and I’ve covered them in various other ways. These boys are the fresh new face of Aussie death metal and they’ve just announced a swift follow up EP titled “Blood Sustenance” that is due for release March 13th, 2020. Pre-Orders are currently up through Bandcamp here. It was the quickest I have ever gone from seeing an announcement to purchasing a pre-order in my life and it’s only 4 dollarydoos which in your currency is probably like 2.6 dollars.
