Words by Kirk
Back in the ‘90s, Washington State was the epicenter of the grunge scene. And while the musical spotlight hasn’t been shining quite so brightly since that scene collapsed, by no means has great music stopped coming out of that area. One place in particular where you can find some tasty tunes is Renton, WA, home of Levi and Jonah Daniels, otherwise known as Commander : ) (pronounced “Commander Smileyface”).
Never heard of ‘em? That’s fine, not everyone can have the awesome burden of having their finger on the pulse of all the great music of the world. If I had to describe Commander : ) to you, it would be the perfect aural amalgamation of pure musical chaos. Drawing influences from electronic music, garage rock, industrial, post-punk, noise rock, and hip-hop, it’s best described as your new favorite thing. Don’t believe me? Let Philip K. Discs convince you with Starberry Perzervz, a collection of everything Commander : ) has released so far. And you’re about to get a sneak peek; the album doesn’t drop ’til this Friday!
Come back tomorrow for our official review of the record!
