Album Review: Earth Rot – Black Tide of Obscurity 9.8 (Black/Death)

I’m sort of angry that no one ever told me about this band before. It’s got everything I love and nothing I don’t. The album is tailor made to my music taste and I’ve been sitting around like a dumbass not even knowing this band existed. This record has easily made it up among my favorite extreme metal records this year and Earth Rot are finding a comfortable spot in my regular rotation. […]

Album Review: Benighted – Obscene Oppressed 9.2 (Death Grind)

Typically on this site I find myself digging into new material from bands I’m not that familiar with, and while that is fun and exciting, every now and again I get to delve into something I’ve been anticipating for months from a favorite artist of mine, and that is really special. It’s nice to take the time and really sink my teeth into something I’m so passionate about. On that note, today we’re talking about the new album from long running French deathgrind band Benighted. […]

Album Review: Deathwhite – Graven Image 9.4 (Doom Metal)

It’s so early in the year and one of my most anticipated albums is already here. Some backstory for you, I first came across Deathwhite in 2018 when they released their first full length ‘For a Black Tomorrow’. The album blew me away and I’ve been consistently listening to it ever since. I’ve been waiting not so patiently since for news of a second album and so here we are with their second full length. I think I latched onto this band so quickly because of how much they remind me of Katatonia which is easily my favourite band of all time and they haven’t put out a new album in 4-ish years. When I first heard ‘For a Black Tomorrow’ I was instantly drawn in by this band’s likeness to Katatonia but I have stuck around because of the band’s talent and merit. […]

Album Review: Thy Catafalque – Naiv 8.7 (Avant Garde)

When confronted with the ambiguous genre tag of avant garde I toss aside all expectations because it can either be a complete waste of time or something glorious and I have no way of knowing which way it’s going to go. Naiv is in the latter category, bringing a rejuvenating sound that has an interesting swing to it. It only took the second track to make me fall in love. […]

Album Review: Defiled – Infinite Regress 9 (Tech Death)

I’ve always enjoyed Japanese metal, they just do it that little bit different and have a way of cutting through the huge amount of monotonous releases I hear each week. Infinite Regress is a well rounded album that is a smooth blend of old school death metal and technical death metal. It discards all of the new ideas currently circulating in tech death (such as the rise of deathcore and synth prominence) and focuses on bringing the old ideas into their framework of intensive mathy timing. The result is a pleasure to listen to as it sounds familiar but also grooves different. It’s well crafted. […]

DEATHWHITE premiere new song “Plague of Virtue” and Info On New Album

Gotta love a band shrouded in mystery. We don’t know who exactly Deathwhite are but the music more than speaks for itself and they have been on my radar for a while due to the combination of their alluring gloomy artwork and the promise of gothic styled doom. I love all doom but certainly not equally, the melancholic guitar driven sadboi times doom is something close to my heart. I’m glad to hear so far that promise is being delivered on in a big way with this new single “Plague Of Virtue” off of their upcoming album Grave Image releasing via Seasons Of Mist January 31st, 2020. Hyborian release new track “Planet Destroyer” and details of Vol II via Season Of Mist

We’ve all heard stoner rock, stoner doom and southern metal, but Progressive Sludge Metal is a tag that gets me excited every time. As you can tell by the sounds on display in this new single, they’ve done well to replace the monotony of sludge with the exciting energy of progressive metal. It’s good blending that creates a nice middle breeding ground for all sorts of goodies. Definitely looking forward to the new album in full. Check out the full art and details below as well. […]
