Album Review: Brand Of Sacrifice – “Lifeblood” 8/10 (Deathcore)

Whether you like deathcore or not, it’s pretty easy to see that the genre isn’t exactly in its heyday right now, and there’s a couple of reasons for that. Almost all of the biggest bands in the genre have either fallen from grace or faded from the limelight. That leaves fans looking for the next big thing, and unfortunately they aren’t really getting it, because young bands are really struggling with innovation. It is of my opinion that the band currently carrying the whole fucking scene on their back is Brand of Sacrifice, here’s why. […]

Album Review: Humanity’s Last Breath – “Välde” 9.2/10 (Technical Deathcore)

Humanity’s Last Breath made a big impression over here with their heavy as balls sound in 2019’s Abyssal, now they’re back on the radar with some innovations to show off. This album uses a lot of sound design to create a more unique approach to blackened deathcore that utilizes every instrumental technique available and even additional symphonics. You can see on their Bandcamp that they’ve been very busy producing tunes but also producer packs during the time between Abyssal and Välde, clearly very talented audio engineering from guitarist and producer Buster Odeholm (Vildjharta, Born of Osiris, Oceano). […]

Album Review: The Acacia Strain – “Slow Decay” 8.6/10 (Deathcore)

The Acacia Strain are a deathcore band that have staked their career on making some of the most bleak, negative, and skull smashing music of all time. They also happen to have been one of the bands that got me into heavy music. They’re one of my favorite bands, and their 2014 effort Coma Witch is easily one of my favorite albums of all time. These guys have been around since 2001, and to see them still going so strong to this day does warm my heart. Needless to say, this was one of my most anticipated albums of the year. […]

Album Review: Aversions Crown – “Hell Will Come For Us All” 7.5/10 (Tech Deathcore)

Aversions Crown is one of the bigger modern bands of Australia, among titans like Psycroptic and Disentomb. Much the same as those bands, it’s usually a good few year wait between albums so Hell Will Come For Us All is a much welcomed release to fans of sci-fi death. At the very least, there are many improvements over their 2017 album Xenocide. Gotta love the Burke work though. […]

Album Review: Beneath The Massacre – Fearmonger 8 (Tech Deathcore)

2019 was the year of comebacks in the music world, we saw the returns of massive bands, cult favorites, and underground bands alike. This epidemic did not spare the deathcore scene, as we saw returns for bands we thought we’d never see again, like Annotations Of An Autopsy and And Hell Followed With. The whole year I was hoping we would see the return of the mighty Beneath The Massacre, and just when I thought it would never happen, on November 29th they announced their new album Fearmonger, and now it is finally here. […]

Album Review: Bodysnatcher – This Heavy Void 8.6 (Deathcore)

My home state, Florida, was a hub for death metal in the early 90s, with legendary bands like Death, Deicide, and Morbid Angel. Over the last decade, there has been a huge uprising of hardcore in the state as well, more specifically that new brand of hardcore that attaches elements of beatdown, metalcore, and deathcore to the sound. Every scene has a leader, a band who’s carrying the torch so to speak, and I thoroughly believe that band is Bodysnatcher here in Florida. […]

Album Review: Viscera – Obsidian 8 (Deathcore)

I’m a huge sucker for cool genre crossovers, I’m also a huge sucker for Unique Leader Records, so basically this record was made for me. Viscera are a new outfit formed just last year consisting of members from Heart Of A Coward, Martyr Defiled, and Nervecell. So, while the band is new, these guys definitely know what they’re doing! Their debut album “Obsidian” comes out on March 6th. […]

Album Review: Child Of Waste – Hunger Made Man 7.5 (Deathcore)

Deathcore is a very hit or miss genre, but when it hits, it hits hard. Some of my all time favorite metal records are of the deathcore genre. Chugcore is a pretty prominent underground core label that’s put out releases for some of the biggest modern names in the genre, like Shadow Of Intent, Vulvodynia, Within Destruction, and Acrania. I’ve decided to keep a closer eye on the label this year so I can get my core fill, and I’ve already found a gem! […]
