Album Review: Rings Of Saturn – Gidim 10 (Deathcore)

Rings Of Saturn have been around for a bit perfecting their insane brand of techno death metal, and with this latest album they prove they can soar alongside current titans Infant Annihilator and Cattle Decapitation. 2019 keeps upping the vocal game and setting an insane standard that most just can’t compete with. Add an overgrown child prodigy of a guitarist and you’ve got the essence of RoS, it’s excessive… and fancy. Utilizing brutality with finesse rather than toxic bravado. I’ve heard so many albums try to reach this peak but fall short, so it’s not without pause that I consider this one of the greatest tech death works of like… the decade? Imagine if Dragonforce was good. […]

Album Review: Mortiferum – Disgorged From Psychotic Depths 8 (Death Doom)

I had an epiphany during the opening track, “Archaic Vision Of Despair”, that death doom is supposed to be a combination of death metal into doom metal but in reality it’s mostly death growls over doom instrumentals. Well in this case the instrumentation brings a strong sense of death riffery but with a sludgy twist. It feels old school, it reminds me of some solid shit out of the late 90s and early 00s of death doomdom. Like all good music, this sounds like descending into the mouth of madness. Well, madness is a mixed bag. […]

Mass’ Top 30 Album Covers of 2019

Any music album is doubtless a package in this day and age. It is more than just the music and consists, moreover, of artwork too. Unlike lyrics, which have been companion to music since the dawn of this inimitable human phenomenon, album art provides a rather new form of accompaniment to music and perhaps it is this aspect that gives meaning to a music “album”. We may have never been so dependent on visual cues as we are today; the impact of visuals on the audience is quite inevitable and many artists and producers have used this to their advantage. The listeners, on the other hand, have been aware of this matter as well and have taken it into account and, as a result, kept the cycle going. […]

Carcassbomb’s Top 25 Of 2019

What a year it’s been, well not quite a full year for me since Noob Heavy was officially born in March. It’s been an incredibly fast journey and I’ve seen a lot of milestones I honestly never once thought I would end up seeing. Starting primarily as a way to stave off all consuming depression of one person, Noob Heavy has developed into a diverse team of young writers each with a lot of love for underground and independent music. 1k readers blew my mind, the fact it’s reached 17k has been life changing and provided us with an opportunity to support bands in a meaningful way. […]

Aussie Metal Top 25 of 2019

This list isn’t pride in Australia as much as it is a list celebrating musicians who despite being Australians, managed to successfully create and distribute their music. There’s a lot of barriers to musicians here due to a fucked economy, poor employment availability and terrible telecommunications infrastructure. So these bands deserve praise and attention for having the ability to create potent art in this modern western culture, even at the risk of crippling debt, or even worse, no one hearing it. […]
