Album Review: Full Of Hell – Weeping Choir 8.8 (Grindcore)

I’m developing a fondness for this balls deep heavy kind of sound. Since hearing their previous release I’ve explored more of what the Grind tag has to offer, from the classics recommended to me by the community to the newer bands like Iron Eagle and Ampallang Infection. I’m definitely getting a feel for it now but still have a way to go. What I am finding is that across all the grind styles are some pretty wild decisions made about album composition and song presentation. It’s like extreme metal wasn’t cutting it so people have tried to condense it’s heaviness into the smallest frame possible. To be the loudest the fastest without ever compromising brutality… well, they do comprise a little on this record and it’s quite eloquent when it happens. […]

Giveaways

Noob Heavy does many giveaways. Some are for fun and some are to promote bands that I represent. It started on IG where my main following was but I have since developed a following across multiple platforms. It is difficult to run the same giveaway on all socials and the winner being announced on all socials, I don’t want people to feel left out because no one on Twitter won for example. […]

Micro Dose: Munt – Towards Extinction (Black/Grind)

Munt sit in an extremely niche style of extreme metal, I niche I enjoy quite a lot. That is blackened deathgrind. The most easily recognizable example of this genre is probably Full Of Hell. It combines the raw intensity and speed of grind with the overbearing evil murky atmosphere of black metal.

The vocals here sound fucking ungodly dude. It’s these evil high pitched black metal screams that are just as sporadic and intense as the blasting drums. In true grind fashion this is ruthlessly heavy, not once does it let up. Definitely good stuff. […]

Album Review: Disentomb – The Decaying Light 9 (Death Metal)

I was surprised by the opener to be honest, I was expecting some pretty standard death with an emphasis on being as “hard af”. There’s quite a bit of motion and emotion to this introduction, leading into some down-tuned guttural grind with often complex and excited guitars. The aggression feels genuine and sometimes even wounded. My exposure to Disentomb is entirely live and local from some time ago, so I’ll have to go back and check out previous releases. This easily stands up to a lot of the work of Full Of Hell or Unique Leader label-mates Ingested, which seem to be the death grind kings at the moment. […]

Free Bandcamp Wiki

Here’s a list of Bandcamp albums that are Name Your Own Price (free). It’s encouraged to support the bands if possible but I know it’s not possible for all of us. If you want one added email it to me or even better join the FB group and post it there. If you enjoy or use these resources I make, I too would appreciate any donations through the sidebar (bottom on mobile) as it takes a long time to do things like this and also it helps me pay pesky site fees. Album Review: Golden Core – Fimbultýr 8.5 (Stoner Doom)

Fimbultýr is a dazzling lofi blend of stoner doom, hard core, death rock and a bunch of stuff. It’s an incredible work that hits just right. This is the right mixing levels for the genre, it’s an older more analogue sounding fuzz. It’s very much the Electric Wizard school of doom and it’s of the highest grade. There’s also grunge and post rock elements that are used effectively, making Fimbultyr an overall engrossing record that should not be overlooked by doomers looking for a harsher longer buzz. […]

Album Review: Atavisma/Void Rot – Split 9 (Death Doom)

Filthy, just filthy. These two bands need to wash their mouths out with soap or something. This is stupidly heavily in a really despondent and grimy way. This one is going to be an easy favorite with it’s well designed artwork and two extremely dark bands putting down three tracks of consistently suffocating death doom. Real fucking death doom, like the old school swedish stuff that started everything you love about the genre. Forget the melody, forget the melancholy, this is death and this is fucking doom. This one will be released by Everlasting Spew Records on the 7th of February on CD and as well a upcoming vinyl release. […]

Album Review: Kublai Khan TX – Absolute 8 (Hardcore)

The latter half of the 2010s has brought a savage strain of hardcore to the masses. It’s metalcore tinged hardcore filled with savage breakdowns, fight riffs, and 2-steps galore. It’s been a very nice evolution to the genre, and popularity is at an all-time high with bands like Knocked Loose raking in huge first week sales and Billboard numbers. A front runner in the genre has been the mighty Kublai Khan, or Kublai Khan TX now (they haven’t spoken out about the inclusion of the TX to my knowledge, but I can assume it’s because of legal troubles with an old speed metal band by the same name). I was super pumped for this album. I’ve seen the band live, met their lead singer, own some of their merch, and jam their stuff on the regular. They did not disappoint my sky-high expectations! […]
