Album Review: Aversions Crown – Xenocide 7.9 (Tech Death)

Aversions Crown pretty make takes the sci fi death metal concept started by Nocturnus and applies it to deathcore. It’s a great way to create an alternative to the norm which in the case of deathcore, is a shitload of generic releases. They stand out to me with the spacey elements mixing up what could have been a more typical sound. They’re kind of the Australian equivalent of Rings Of Saturn and one of the few Brisbane based bands to sign to a major label, having caught the attention of Nuclear Blast.

Album Review: Xenobiotic – Mordrake 7.8 (Deathcore)

Here’s the perfect storm of pre-release bait for me – it’s an Australian tech death release featuring the artwork of Mariousz Lewandowski (I know how we all feel but this one’s really good). Xenobitoic are a tech deathcore band from Australia’s new metal mecca, Perth. Take a look at my Top 25 Australian Metal Releases article and drink every time I wrote Perth, then just drink recreationally. Mordrake releases on the 21st of February and features a couple of guests vocals that really make their tracks for me. Expect more of a scifi prog approach than a bunch of breakdowns – we’re telling a story here with an album of a higher brow. […]

Album Review: The Ritual Aura – Velothi 8.2 (Tech Death)

Before even pressing play I am more or less in love with this album and I think the concept of Morrowind Metal has been a long ass time coming. Morrowind was the game of my life, no doubt about it, I found it at Video Ezy on original XBOX when I was 11. I played Morrowind and only Morrowind until Oblivion was released on 360 when I was 15. I have an encyclopedia like memory of that game and its many quest lines, as well as exploits. I found that fucking Dwemer Cube about 300 times. I’ve played it plenty as an adult too, fully modded. This is even more in my wheelhouse than Dark Souls. The Ritual Aura are also an Australian band with great album art. The music would have to suck more balls than I can imagine being sucked to fuck this up. […]

Carcassbomb’s Top 25 Of 2019

What a year it’s been, well not quite a full year for me since Noob Heavy was officially born in March. It’s been an incredibly fast journey and I’ve seen a lot of milestones I honestly never once thought I would end up seeing. Starting primarily as a way to stave off all consuming depression of one person, Noob Heavy has developed into a diverse team of young writers each with a lot of love for underground and independent music. 1k readers blew my mind, the fact it’s reached 17k has been life changing and provided us with an opportunity to support bands in a meaningful way.
