Every now and then you come across an interesting band full of members from other random bands or in the case of Bull Elephant, completely anonymous. It has the vibe of seasoned musicians “side project”, you know… really bloody unusually good for a debut, stuff like Shrinebuilder, Secret Band or The Sound Of Animals Fighting. It’s a unique album from clearly talented people from various musical backgrounds. The first track is streaming on Bandcamp.

Bull Elephant is the story of a slain African elephant that occultist Ahnenerbe SS attempted to bring back from the dead as a new form of battle asset. However, before re-animation could be completed it was intercepted by a mysterious witch-shaman, pursuing her own agenda and redirecting the undead creature’s purpose

Are you reading that shit? It’s insane.

This album is a buffet of styles all with solid execution and a Lovecraftian undertone to really top it all off. There’s a bit of death, sludge and classic metal throughout so It more or less comes down to preference. Admittedly I’m less keen on heavy metal and thrash, both of which play a big role here but overall it was a highly enjoyable album. The sheer assault of variety is too well done not to explore it. There’s a bit to wrap my head around, it’s quite theatrical and involves a lot of micro and macro stuff. It’s sophisticated and interesting so check it out.

And the mystery, who the fuck are they? I could have sworn I heard vocals from Conjurer UK at one point for the guttural stuff.
