It’s been a few weeks since I’ve covered a straight up rager on this site, so when I heard “The Tether’s End” by Remission, i knew I had to talk about it. Remission are a death metal band with some thrash influences and melodic death metal textures. This is their debut album and it’s set for release on November 15th. This is one you aren’t going to want to miss!

Not being the biggest thrash fan, I was worried about the thrash influences on the record, but they actually make for some of the album’s best attributes, with the blistering speed of the drums, the flashy lead work, and the occasional gang vocals. Tracks like, “Forced Entropy” and “Submit To The Order” are the best examples of this.

There are parts where they slow it down a bit, specifically on some of the longer tracks. They pick up a slower pace or just more melodic riffs in general. The track, “Temples” does this brilliantly. Towards the middle of the track, the music slows to a crawl with a melodic yet eerie guitar melody and the vocalist hits us with some wicked black metal esque screeches before the track unleashes some face melting guitar solos upon us. Around the latter half of the record they definitely start touching on some At The Gates vibes.

No matter what influences the band goes for, at the core of their sound there is punishing riff heavy death metal. It’s a long listen, but It’s a fun one too. There are some very mosh worthy bangers on this record.

The vocalist here has a nice range, and his vocals sound powerful no matter what he’s going for. There are some great mids on the record, they’re very decipherable as well so that’s always a plus. This album has something for every metalhead out there. I think these guys are gonna make some pretty big waves with the record once it releases (November 15), it’s a damn good outing.
