First time listening to these guys, the art and opening atmosphere already have me super excited. I love stoner doom, the sound, the aesthetic and the general creativity. Grab your pen, whether to write or vape, and launch into space and the ocean with REZN. My two favorite themes for cover art are the ocean and space, so naturally I adore the combination of the two here and how they are framed. This artwork was done by Allyson Medeiros
Atmosphere is at the heart of this record, with the band often taking their time to achieve build ups and to generate riff progression. The second track is completely instrumental spacey post rock which I can always appreciate. Then there’s Quantum Being, a definite stand out track that follows on from the chill song before it well and brings more energy and vocals. It’s a really vintage kind of zeppelin sound but done with so much melancholy and gloom, I love it. It’s very melodic and floydian.
This is a great album for headphones in bed in the dark. Psychedelics optional. There’s not a whole lot to it, it’s a great entry to the genre but doesn’t expand on it much. They just nail the aesthetic and sound well and I’m more than happy to have another awesome stoner record with great art to add the archive. Maybe I will have to double back to this when I check out more of their discography but my first impression is that they’re quite mild but above average musically and presentation wise they really get it. This is what happens when bands work with the right artist, it delivers the music to the masses. In 2019 we’re finding music with our eyes more and more. Scanning through Bandcamp for anything that stands out.
I think it’s likely a favorite of a lot of people but with all of the international doom I’ve been hearing, this USA based doom just feels a little closer to the standard than I’ve been expecting from albums lately. I want some strange.
